By Yuming Jin, A2MAC1 China Cost Insight Team

The 2025 Shanghai Auto Show showcased a wave of groundbreaking battery technologies, reflecting the rapid evolution of electric mobility. As part of A2MAC1’s ongoing commitment to uncovering cost and technology insights, we’ve summarized the most compelling battery system innovations that are shaping the future of EVs.

    1. CATL’s Panshi Chassis: A Leap Toward Full Structural Integration

CATL’s Panshi chassis introduces a fully integrated Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) design, categorized as a “Type 5” full structural battery. This intelligent chassis merges energy efficiency, safety, lightweight design, and smart optimization—paving the way for next-generation vehicle platforms.

    2. Xiaoyao Dual Core Battery: Redundancy Meets Flexibility

The Xiaoyao battery system features a dual-cabin design, ensuring continued operation even in thermal runaway scenarios. Its modular architecture allows for series or parallel configurations with mixed chemistries (e.g., Na-LFP and NCM-LFP), offering both resilience and adaptability.

    3. Naxin’s Sodium-Ion Breakthroughs

Naxin unveiled the first mass-produced high-voltage sodium-ion battery, boasting:

    • 175 Wh/kg energy density
    • >500 km BEV range
    • Fast charging (30–80% SOC in 10 minutes)
    • Outstanding cold-weather performance (-40°C capacity retention ~90%)

Additionally, the Naxin 24V battery offers a cost-effective, long-life alternative to lead-acid batteries, with smart BMS features and reliable cold starts.

    4. Gen2 Shenxing Super-Charging Battery: Speed and Range Redefined

    This LFP-based high-voltage battery supports:

    • 12C peak charging
    • >800 km range
    • 425 Wh/L cell energy density
    • 75% pack space utilization

Innovations like super-crystalline graphite and SEI-regenerating electrolytes enhance ion transfer and reduce resistance, enabling ultra-fast charging.

    5. Chocolate Battery Swapping: Standardization for Scalability

CATL’s “Chocolate” battery system introduces standardized swappable modules:

    • 20# Battery: For A0-class vehicles (42–52 kWh, 400–500 km range)
    • 25# Battery: For A/B-class vehicles (56–70 kWh, 500–600 km range)

This modular approach aims to rival traditional fuel refueling in convenience and speed.

    6. CALB’s One-Stop and Top-Class Battery Series

CALB presented a suite of high-performance solutions:

    • One-Stop Battery: 142.8Ah cells, 18-minute fast charge, >150 Wh/kg (LFP), >200 Wh/kg (LMFP)
    • Top-Class PHEV Battery: Cylindrical cells with >15C discharge and >480 Wh/L energy density
    • Top-Class REEV Battery: 5C fast charging, 500 km range, 12-minute charge time
    • UV Coating for HV Insulation: Solvent-free insulation for 800V platforms
    • High-Energy eVTOL Battery: Tailored for aerial mobility applications

    7. OMNI Battery: All-Weather, Ultra-Fast Charging

    The OMNI battery delivers:

    • 6C fast charging (300 km in 5 minutes)
    • 20% range boost in cold climates
    • 100% better low-temp acceleration
    • 6.6x stronger bottom protection
    • Advanced thermal safety with NTP and redundancy design

The 2025 Shanghai Auto Show underscored the industry’s shift toward safer, faster, and more versatile battery systems. From sodium-ion breakthroughs to structural integration and swappable modules, these innovations are not only reshaping EV performance but also redefining the user experience.
